HELLO and WELCOME to the first ever BELL Blog!
Seeing as it is our FIRST EVER blog, we thought it might be important to tell you a little about who we are and what we do…
We specialise in creative, engaging and innovative English language projects throughout Italy. We are dedicated to providing young people with “edutainment”. We combine English language education with entertainment to create the most enjoyable way to learn English!
Summer Camps
Our Summer Camps evolve every year with more and more schools, students and tutors joining us. We are one of the biggest providers of English Summer Camps in Italy! The experience for everyone involved has proved unforgettable and life-changing. From the families that hosted a tutor in their homes, to the students being inspired to confidently speak English. In the next BELL Blog, we will explore all things that are BELL Summer Camps – don’t miss it!
CLIL Weeks
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is a teaching methodology where students learn a core school subject through the use of the English language. Since the subject is taught through English, students are introduced to new vocabulary, new topics, and most importantly the learning is more fun and engaging than a typical English grammar lesson! More schools are adopting this method, and working with us by booking one of our fantastic English teachers to spend a week in their school. We have a wide range of topics that our enthusiastic tutors are trained to deliver to a gold standard!
Theatre in Education (TIE) Tours
Our TIE tours have created a magnificent and magical world that brings English to life! Through TIE, students recognise new uses for English and the fun they can have with the language. Unlike other traditional activities used for teaching a foreign language, theatre also develops creativity and social skills. We have adapted our Theatre in Education tours and now provide a post-show theatre workshop lead by our professional actors. The workshops have proven to consolidate the performances and develop students’ English even further!
The New Team is in the Saddle!
We are excited to announce a change in the management of the English team. With the company growing, and further new projects set to be announced, Tom and Ryan will be the driving force behind the new academic year. Tom will jump into the role of Head of Theatre, directing and mentoring the TIE actors during rehearsals and whilst they are on the road. Ryan will be taking over as Head of English, developing the CLIL projects and facilitating the workshops that we run with our partnering schools and teachers. This change comes as a result of the fabulous Rosie moving onto pastures new, after a wonderful five years of commitment to the company. Be sure to check out our next blog, where a more in-depth dedication to Rosie and her work will be featured.
Meet the Masters
Tom is a trained professional actor, and joined the company last year as a Summer Camp Tutor. Tom impressed us so much, that we employed him as a CLIL teacher, before he eventually moved into an office position. He is incredibly excited to begin his journey as the Head of Theatre, and is sure to bring his acting experience to further improve our TIE projects!
Ryan is a Law graduate with a wealth of professional experience. After teaching in Europe and Asia, he joined us last year as a Project Coordinator, where he facilitated the Teachers Workshops and the Exploring Abroad Tour in Edinburgh. He took over as the Recruitment Manager this spring, and hopes to use his experience to drive the company forward into the new academic year!
Together, Tom and Ryan are both great friends, having first met on a Summer Camp in Spain. We are certainly very happy and excited to see what their partnership can deliver for the upcoming year!
Exploring Abroad
Every year we provide the incredible experience of a full immersion trip to an English-speaking country. This year, the BELL team (Rosie, Ryan and Laura) took a group of over forty incredibly excited teachers to Scotland to experience the culture, the food and the famous landmarks! They visited some of the most beautiful sights in Edinburgh and developed their teaching skills through BELL-style workshops. We could talk for ages about how great the trip was, but thought it would be best to hear it from those involved:
Mariacristina – Teacher
The teachers’ camp in Scotland was a fantastic experience. We had the chance to practice the language, to socialize with our colleagues coming from different Italian regions and, above all, we did interesting activities that showed how we can teach English to our students, focusing on the “learning by doing” method and on improving pupils’ communicative skills.
Antonella – Teacher
I liked the most was that we learned the history of Scotland with games, drama and “investigations”. After we visited Blackness Castle, we played these games in its lawn and it was really amazing. Moreover, I appreciated the food of the canteen, the organisation and the beautiful places we visited.
We know Summer is almost over – it’s just about time to get back to school so we’re ready to help you!
